What Project Cargo Operation Did SCL Coordinate?
Sea Cargo Logistics (SCL), in collaboration with Flowlink, our freight forwarding partner based in China, coordinated the international transportation of an electrical transformer and its accessories from Shanghai, China, to Panama, including final delivery to Río Congo, La Chorrera.
The operation began at the Port of Shanghai, continued by sea to the Port of Balboa in Panama, and was followed by inland transportation to the project’s final destination. In total, the cargo traveled more than 15,000 kilometers from China to its delivery point in Panama.
What Were the Cargo Specifications?
The shipment consisted of one electrical transformer and 29 packages of accessories, with a total gross weight of 101,702 kg and a total volume of 243.723 CBM.
The main unit measured 5.05 m long, 3.45 m wide, and 3.55 m high, making cargo handling and inland transportation two of the key stages of the operation.
Given its dimensions and the shipment’s overall weight, the project required the coordination of multiple stages and specialized equipment from the port of origin through final delivery.
How Was the Cargo Transported from China to Panama?
The cargo was shipped from the Port of Shanghai, China, where it began its ocean journey to the Port of Balboa, Panama. The reference sea distance between the two ports is approximately 15,000 km.
Origin coordination was carried out in collaboration with Flowlink, integrating the operation in China with the receiving, handling, and subsequent stages in Panama.
However, arrival at Balboa did not mark the end of the project. Once the cargo was discharged, a second critical stage began: transporting the transformer and its accessories from the port to Río Congo, La Chorrera, to complete the final delivery to the client’s site.
How Was the Final Delivery in Panama Coordinated?
For the inland transportation and handling operations required in Panama, SCL coordinated the specialized equipment needed according to the cargo specifications.
The operation involved low-bed trailers, flatbed trailers, and a telescopic crane, which were used to transport and handle the transformer and its accessories through to the final delivery point.
By combining international ocean transportation with specialized equipment and inland coordination at destination, SCL completed an operation that extended beyond port-to-port transportation, covering the cargo movement through to final delivery.
