Carriage Global Delivers 48-Hour Heavy Lift Success for Critical Project Cargo in Singapore

Project Success Summary

CGS successfully completed the critical reworking and transport of two 20-tonne Debutaniser Columns (25meters x 3.5meters OD) to Jurong Port  from 2×62 feet Mafi trailers from Pasir Panjang Auto Terminal within a strict 48-working-hour window. Despite sudden port space constraints forcing a complete redesign of the lifting plan, the team secured all regulatory approvals and met the breakbulk vessel’s tight deadline to avoid detention charges.

Key Project Metrics

  • Timeframe: 48 working hours from client go-ahead to Mafi transfer. As client booked Breakbulk vessel heading to Chittagong at last minute.
  • Cargo: 2 x Debutaniser Columns (25 meters length x 3.5 meters outer diameter).
  • Weight: 20 tonnes per column.
  • Equipment used: 1 x 160-tonne crane, 6-metre spreader bar, and modular trailers.
  • Route: PPAT Port to Jurong Port.

Major Challenges & Strategic Solutions

  • Sudden Method Engineering Change:
    • Challenge: Initial plans for a tandem lift were rejected because PPAT Port lacked the available slot space to accommodate two cranes.
    • Solution: CGS rapidly re-engineered the rigging plan. We switched from a 2 x 160t crane tandem lift to a single 160t crane utilizing a 6-metre spreader bar to safely balance the 25-metre length.
  • Tight Vessel Deadlines:
    • Challenge: The cargo had to meet a strict inducement breakbulk vessel ETA at Jurong Port.
    • Solution: The lifting team was appointed instantly, and operations ran continuously to compress the timeline.
  • Complex Regulatory Approvals:
    • Challenge: Securing rapid Risk Assessment (RA) approval from PPAT Port alongside auxiliary police escorts and Land Transport Authority (LTA) permits for over-dimensional cargo.
    • Solution: Expedited liaison with port authorities and transport regulators ensured all permits were cleared concurrently with the physical operations.

The CGS Advantage: Asset-Based Control

Owning physical assets transforms CGS from a middleman into a direct solution provider. When external bottlenecks or port restrictions disrupt standard operating procedures, having an in-house fleet and dedicated crew allows for instant tactical pivots without subcontractor delays.

Core In-House Capabilities

  • Haulage Fleet: Total control over specialized transport scheduling and asset deployment.
  • Lifting & Lashing Team: Dedicated personnel ensuring immediate, engineered rigging compliance.
  • Oversize Cargo Reworking: Specialized yard space designed to modify and stabilize out-of-gauge loads.
  • Stuffing & Unstuffing: Direct container and flat-rack management inside a secure, CGS-controlled facility.
