GR Global Projects GmbH has once again demonstrated what it means to master complex heavy-lift logistics. A complete machinery installation was transported from Central Germany all the way to its final destination in Utah, USA — combining inland trucking, inland waterway transport, ocean freight via a Northern German seaport, transshipment along the U.S. West Coast, and final delivery by road.
From the very beginning, this project demanded precision, flexibility, and absolute control. With individual units weighing up to 97 tons, cargo reaching a width of 635 cm, and approximately 80% of the transports requiring special permits, there was little room for error.
The challenges were substantial. Permit planning alone required 10 weeks of preparation in Germany and a further 12 weeks in California, US. The shipment then had to cross three U.S. states by truck, each with its own regulatory and logistical requirements. At the same time, GR Global Projects had to develop technical solutions for the required loading and transport procedures — all while maintaining a strict 50-day door-to-door schedule.
But complexity is where GR Global Projects performs at its best.
Adding another layer of precision was the customer’s requirement for just-in-sequence delivery. Every individual delivery had to arrive exactly when required by the receiving site. Tight coordination of delivery slots, crane availability, unloading operations, and personnel for final assembly was therefore essential. Constant communication and close cooperation between all parties ensured that every step was aligned and executed efficiently.
Then came the conditions that cannot be controlled: challenging weather and freezing temperatures in the mountains of Utah, US. Yet even these circumstances could not stop the project. GR Global Projects remained flexible, decisive, and solution-oriented throughout the entire operation.
The result: a successful delivery to the final destination — on schedule and without any failures.
