Orchid Shipping collaborate with Maersk Line to take care of special cargo

It’s not very often that a boiler weighing 25 tonnes and 2430 cms long gets shipped from Mumbai to Antwerp. And when it does, it certainly requires the right expertise, equipment, and moreover the right kind of people who believe in teamwork. This is what exactly happened when XLP member Orchid Shipping India Pvt. Ltd teamed up with its long-time customer Maersk Line to ship a 83 foot long consignment surpassing the previous achievement of shipping a 73 foot long cargo.

The shipment was well planned, beginning from scheduling and sailing the cargo from a specific date and time, to the arrival of the cargo at the destination which helped to reduce the transit time by 50%.

The transit time was reduced from 45 days to 22 days as it was not loaded on conventional break-bulk and this fine co-ordination helped the customer in meeting their logistics requirement.

“Maersk Line’s Special Cargo team have extended their kind co-operation not only for space, but also for the arrangement of all special equipment on time, stowage & meeting commercial expectations to motivate the customer for its loading on the Maersk vessel. They also managed to get the necessary approval from the origin & destination terminals for handling this parcel on time.” -Orchid Shipping India Pvt. Ltd.

Commenting on the refinery project- Paibon 2, Mr Franck Dedenis, Managing Director, Maersk Line (India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh) said  ”I am very pleased that the Maersk Line team along with the Orchid Shipping team have been successful in handling this OOG consignment. We believe in continuously seeking ways to provide the most competitive, innovative, reliable and sustainable services to our customers. We will continue our strategy to be closer to our customers by providing integrated cost-effective logistical solutions.”

The project had been shipped through M. V Shams. It sailed Nhava Sheva on the 17th of February 2017. “Customer first” is at the heart of the way Maersk Line does business. In order to better provide every customer with shipping solutions, Maersk understands the needs and partners to build a strong relationship. Maersk Line’s collaboration with Orchid Shipping is one such example.
