ECS Navigates Complex Equipment Shipment for Golf Course Project in The Bahamas

What Project Cargo Operation Was Managed by ECS?

ECS, a member of the XLProjects Network (XLP), supported a golf course construction project on an island in the Bahamas in collaboration with Cardinal Global Logistics Ltd. in the United Kingdom. ECS handled ocean transportation with King Ocean, for which it is the agent. Multiple shipments from Southampton included bulldozers, dumper trucks, excavators and other construction equipment, transported mainly on flat racks and by RoRo through Miami.

What Challenges Did ECS Face?

A Hitachi 210 excavator was found to be 1.20 M taller than its booked height, reaching 4.76 M. After a major shipping line rejected the sailing, ECS reworked the cargo for shipment. When the excavator was no longer required, ECS also arranged its return despite limited options and high handling costs.

What Equipment Was Shipped?

The project included several pieces of oversized construction equipment:

Equipment Dimensions Weight
D5 5.4 x 3.7 x 3.2 M 19.7 T
D3 4.2 x 3.2 x 2.8 M 13.3 T
D6K 4.8 x 3.6 x 3.1 M 16.4 T
Bell E20 dump truck 9.3 x 3.1 x 3.4 M 16.5 T

What Does This Project Demonstrate?

The operation highlights the importance of accurate cargo information, flexibility and problem-solving when managing complex project logistics.
