International Freight Transport (IFT): Dual Flat Rack Roof Bolter Routes From West Virginia to Nhava Sheva

< 1 min read

A shrink-wrapped underground roof bolter was transported across a pair of 40-foot flat racks. The machine is the kind of drilling and ground support equipment that holds up the roof in underground coal mines, and it began in the coal country of West Virginia before a heavy haul road move carried it to the Port of Savannah, Georgia, for ocean export to Nhava Sheva, the Jawaharlal Nehru gateway serving western India. Both pieces loaded out of gauge, and the heavier of the two ran well past thirty tonnes, which set the tone for the whole move.

Weight, not dimension, drove the engineering. The heavier piece sat above the working limit of standard flat rack equipment, so the platforms were chosen for rated strength and the cargo was built up with extra securing materials to clear an independent cargo bureau survey before the vessel cut off. Webbing straps were tensioned to the certified securing points, with timber dunnage and chafing protection where the load met the webbing, and the survey confirmed the cargo was evenly distributed and secured to accepted standards of good seamanship. With certification filed, the pair was released for loading and onward routing into the Arabian Sea.
