What Was the Scope of This Project Cargo Operation?

In a recent operation that demonstrated precision and coordination, Antwerp Metal Logistics NV, a member of the XLProjects Network (XLP), successfully managed the end-to-end movement of 27 cable reels from Pyeongtaek, South Korea, to various locations in Germany. The cargo, totaling 2,120 CBM and nearly 1,000 metric tons, required detailed planning due to its oversized dimensions and critical timeline.

How Did Antwerp Metal Logistics Handle the Ocean Freight?

The cable reels—each varying in size, with the largest reaching a diameter of 4.2 M and a maximum weight of 66 tons—were loaded onto a breakbulk vessel for ocean transport to the Port of Rotterdam. Upon arrival, the reels were discharged onto an open terminal for short-term storage. This phase allowed for streamlined inland logistics and staging.

What Was the Strategy for Inland Transportation?

From the terminal, 26 reels were transferred via inland barge to the installation site in Germany for land cable setup. One reel was trucked to a storage location, designated as a backup unit for emergency maintenance use.

How Did the Team Ensure Compliance and Monitoring?

The company not only managed the import customs clearance but also followed up on the handling and transportation steps through their AML cargo inspectors. This ensured that every aspect of the operation was compliant, secure, and aligned with the client’s expectations.
