XLP Collaboration’s Ongoing Success: Shipping 80 Rail Cars from Mexico to the Philippines

2 min read

The Collaboration of the XLP members, Multitrade Spain, Virtus Project and Global Logistics and, Sea Cargo Logistics, is currently involved in the successful transportation of 80 rail cars from Veracruz, Mexico, to Bauan, Batangas, Philippines. Each rail car, measuring L-14745 x W-2588 x H-4010mm.

The collaboration among XLP partners has been crucial for the project’s ongoing success. Multitrade Spain is taking the lead role, with Sea Cargo Logistics in Mexico handling the origin portion. Additionally, Virtus Projects and Global Logistics oversee the on-shore operations, which include receiving the rail cars at the port of discharge, processing tax exemptions, customs clearance, and delivery using Goldhofer Multi-Axe trailer coupled with vessel-bridge and unloading at rail track at the delivery site.

The operation faces many challenges, including vertical restrictions during transportation and ongoing road construction en route to the delivery site. To avoid obstacles, the team conducts night-time travel, taking them two nights to deliver, and performs frequent pre-move surveys to prevent delays and ensure smooth progress.

Moreover, due to the absence of the direct shipping services for this out-of-gauge (OOG) cargo from Mexico to Philippines, a shipping solution had to be construed from a non-existing one. With full support by Virtus Projects, surveying multiple ports and locations to devise a shipping solution. Despite geopolitical complexities, which necessitated rerouting ships via North Europe and the Cape of Good Hope, covering approximately 20,000 nautical miles, the project continues to progress effectively.

The professionalism exhibited by XLP partners at all stages ensures excellent performance. So far, nearly half of the rail cars have been delivered, another portion is now sailing en route to Bauan Port in Batangas, arriving soon, and the remaining units will follow.
