Member Collaboration: Seaway Logistics and ISS Global Forwarding Delivered 8 Transformers for Stage 1 of Australia’s Largest Solar Farm

< 1 min read

Seaway Logistics, with the assistance of ISS Global in Turkey and Germany, provided the urgent airfreight from Turkey of 8 transformers for stage 1 of Australia’s largest solar farm.  These transformers are the completion of a project that has seen Seaway handle the delivery over the past 2 years of over 3,000 FEU of solar trackers, cables, and panels, as well as break bulk cargo, including 2 transformers at 150 tons each.

Each of the 8 transformers requiring airfreight was 310cm x 190cm x 245cm with a transport weight of 11.2 tons, requiring main-deck flights to Australia. With each transformer, 3.2 tons of accessories had to be sent.

As it was the first time the supplier had attempted to airfreight transformers of this size Seaway spent considerable time and endless late-night Team meetings planning these shipments with the supplier, the client, and the end receiver in Australia to come up with a suitable design for a steel shipping frame to protect the transformer cooling fins during transport and gain the approval from all the engineers involved.

To date, 8 transformers at a total weight of 116 tons have been sent via airfreight, with a combination of flights directly from Turkey and EU trucking to other airports to secure flights to Australia.  Due to the urgency of each shipment multiple airlines and airports of departure were used.
